Grinnell, IA (April 26, 2010) – In observance of Nursing Home Week, May 9 to 15, St. Francis Manor will host a series of events designed to enrich the relationships and contacts between residents, youth, community members, families and staff. The theme of the week is "Enriching Every Day" and St. Francis Manor would like to invite you to donate yur time as a volunteer or attend the events. "Our activities department does an excellent job with keeping people involved and thinking of new and interesting events," said Executive Administrator, Dion Schrack. "This week is just an example of the amount of work they do dailyon and off campus."

Some of the week's special events include:

  • Children's Music Hour – Tuesday, May 11th at LOAM – Children Grinnell Community Day Care children from the Ahrens Family Center will sing for residents and family in North Dining Room.
  • Music on the Grounds with "Too Many Strings Band" – Wednesday, May 12th from 6:30PM-7:15PM – Music on the Grounds of St. Francis Manor (Social Center Parking Lot) – Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the sounds of Too Many Strings Band, refreshments to be served. In the event of rain, event to be held in Social Center.
  • Health Fair at Sully Community Center – Thursday, May 13th from 9AM – NOON. Community Services of St. Francis will be hosting a free health fair, come to community center to get a health screening of your blood pressure, heart rate, respirations and answers to any health questions. Breakfast pastries and coffee will be served. If unable to attend contact Jane Vander Weerdt at 641-780-6231 to schedule a home screening.
  • Pet Parade, Friday, May 14th at 1PM – Bring your Dog or Cat to participate in a parade around the facility - The parade line up will be in the South Dining room at 1pm.

All events are free to attend. Activities Director, Courtney Cummings is asking for up to eight volunteers for the week's events.
