At the regular city election held on Tuesday, November 4th; Council Member Robert Nikkel was re-elected by write-in, but refused the position.  The office was then to be assumed by the person who received the next highest number of votes.  In Sully’s case this turned out to be a pool of five people that all received the same number of write-in votes.  The name of Craig Maasdam was drawn from this pool; however, he declined the position.  According to State Code the position is now considered vacant and may be filled, at the Council’s option, by one of two procedures: appointment by the remaining members of the council or by a special election.  The Council will discuss how to fill the vacant position at the December 14th council meeting.
