For the third consecutive year, the Lynnville-Sully High School girls basketball team won their Class 1A regional final versus Burlington Notre Dame, 64-51, on Feb. 20 and headed back to Wells Fargo Arena to the state tournament. The L-S Hawks fell to the West Sioux Falcons 54-43, in first-round action at state on Feb. 27. After dominating the first half, the #4-ranked Hawks were outscored 36-17 in a disappointing second half of play and ended their season 23-3. The team shown proudly with their 2012 state tournament qualifier banner are: Back, Rachel Van Wyk, Brianna James, Sydney Brand, Aimee Rolffs, McKenzi Ritter, Cassie Cullen, Lysandra James; front, Brittany Bryan, Jade Van Rees, Shelby Davis, Lyndsay Terpstra, Becca Vos, and Madison Rasmusson. Coaches are Jerry Hulsing and Jeff Corbett. The 2011-12 season gave Coach Hulsing his 400th win of his 20-year coaching career. Hulsing was honored following the Feb. 4 L-S game for this great achievement and will also be inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Mar. 31 at the Clarion Hotel in Cedar Rapids.
