Community Luggage Drive!

Pull out your luggage, buried deep in basements and closets.  There are people in our Iowa communities that are facing large life changes and the hardship of starting over.  For example, when women leave shelters or housing assistance to start over on their own, a recurrent item that would help them start this new chapter of their lives was a simple one: a suitcase.  We’re having a town meeting, Thursday, September 27, so we’re also doing a “luggage drive”.

Bring your unwanted luggage to the meeting.  We are accepting any items that might assist families in transition, including duffle bags, garment bags, backpacks, and suitcases. Please bring your empty, clean, functional items to the Community Center on or before Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.

The items collected will be provided to United Way and distributed to women starting anew. We hope that these donations can offer the recipients a gesture of dignity and respect, sparking a new point of view, to encourage them on their way to safer, healthier, productive lifestyles for themselves and their children.

If you have questions, call the city office (594-3493).
