The RISE Paving Project in Sully is on schedule even though there have been some rainy days.alt

Early in May, the north portion of 1st Avenue (shown at right) opened. After years of city officials' work on paving for 1st Avenue on the west edge of Sully, Thursday morning, Apr. 30, the paving began at the north end of the street.  A RISE Grant helped make the project a reality. General contractor is Blommers Construction Inc. of Pella. The city's engineer is Brad Uitermarkt of Garden and Associates of Oskaloosa.

Thirteen Lynnville-Sully student athletes capped their track seasons with 10 events at the 2015 Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships May 21-23 at Drake Fieldhouse in Des Moines. Four of these athletes, seniors Shelby Davis, Madison Rasmusson, Cori Rice, and Noah Zylstra, made the final trips of their high schol track career around the blue oval, culminating a track career that included multiple state appearances, personal bests, and broken school records.

The girls track team's history-making season saw them become the first girls state-qualifying track meet team championship in school history. The girls qualified seven events for Class 1-A state track competition where they tied for 20th place.

On the boys' side, four boys competed in three events at the state meet, where they tied for 45th place.

Here are the results of the history-making trip to state.

Beginning July 1st, garbage collection services for Sully will undergo a change. Curbside trash collection will still be provided each Friday by Midwest Sanitation; however, the way in which the trash is collected will change.
Midwest Sanitation will provide each residential customer with one 65-gallon tote for trash/solid waste. One tote will be collected each week from each residential customer using a truck with an automated arm that will pick up and dump the tote. This method is already being used in Pella and Lynnville.
All trash must fit inside the provided 65-gallon tote.  No extra loose bagged trash or boxes will be collected unless Midwest Sanitation has been contacted ahead of time for scheduling and paying required fees.
Midwest Sanitation will be delivering the totes during the month of June.  Each tote will have a letter attached explaining the service and giving residents multiple avenues to contact Midwest Sanitation via social media, website, and telephone.

The 2015 theme for the annual July 4th celebration is "Pride in Our Past....Faith in Our Future" so start getting your parade entries ready.

The Sully Central Park Playset Committee has teamed up with The Principal Charity Classic Golf Tournament to raise funds for the Sully Central Park playset.  Birdies For Charity enables a person to pledge an amount they’re willing to pay for the total number of birdies the golf pros will make during the golf tournament that will be played June 5-7. The minimum pledge amount is five cents per birdie. In 2014, there were 843 total birdies. This would be a $42.15 donation. If you don’t want to make a birdie pledge, you also have the option to make a one-time flat donation amount (minimum $25).

One-hundred percent of the donations and pledges will go to the Sully Central Park playset project fund.  Plus all your donations and pledges are tax deductible.

How do you participate or make a pledge? Two ways are available to choose from.
