Many people spread the word and the Sully park rejuvenation project finished in fourth place with 326 votes among 10 projects in Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company's Working Together, Making It Better grant promotion, which ended Nov. 26, 2013.

Thank you to all who voted and asked for Facebook votes for Suly's park project, which was awarded $250.

"It was amazing to see how everyone spread the word and most of the time we were in first or second place until the last day or so when the projects in much larger communities jumped ahead in the voting," said Margaret Vander Weerdt, president of The Sully Foundation who entered the grant competitoin with the park project. "Thank you to Diane Vos who worked on the grant writing and worked hard with several other Facebook users to get votes. We've learned a lot about working together as a community for future grant applications."

Grinnell Mutual received 34 project submissions from nine Midwest states. More than 2,550 Facebook users voted for their favorite project among the 10 finalists. The three grant recipients were chosen based on the number of votes received.

Grinnell Mutual will distribute $3,500 grant funding to the followig non-profit organizations: Luverne Street Music in Luverne, MN-684 votes; Northeast Nodaway Partners in Education Foundation in Ravenwood, MO-680 votes, and the Iowa Food Systems Council's Cultivate Iowa project in Des Moines with 401 votes.
